Statham never really got his “B movie to A movie” bump, partially because Hollywood barely makes films like Total Recall, Under Siege or Cliffhanger. Those two flicks, opening amid Statham’s metaphorical promotion as an added value element in Furious 7 ($1.515 billion), Spy ($235 million) and The Meg ($530 million), are both among Statham’s biggest global-grossing action vehicles ever. That was his last “just an actioner” until now. Both Jason Statham and Franois Berland reprise their roles, as Frank Martin and Inspector Tarconi, respectively. It is the third and final installment in the original trilogy of the Transporter franchise. Statham made his screen debut with Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, and had an unusual path to becoming an action star. Transporter 3 (French: Le Transporteur 3) is a 2008 English-language French action-thriller film.

Mechanic: Resurrection earned $22 million domestic in late 2016 and, partially thanks to $54 million in China, $126 million global on a $40 million budget. While the series may have made him a star, here's why Jason Statham passed on The Transporter 4.

This, again, in the middle of a global pandemic amid shattered theatrical windows and (allegedly) changing consumer behavior. It could end up, give or take Snatch, Statham’s third-biggest overseas-grossing solo/non-franchise action flick. With $45 million overseas and a likely finish over/under $50 million, its foreign cume will be right between (for now) Transporter 2 ($46 million), Mechanic ($48 million), Snatch ($53 million, if you choose to count it), Transporter 3 ($81 million) and Mechanic Resurrection ($104 million). I don’t know if Wrath of Man will pass Transporter 3, and it’s probably not going to top $100 million.

Now that doesn’t count his turns in The Fast Saga (villain in Furious 7, anti-hero in Fate of the Furious and good guy in Hobbs & Shaw), nor his second-only-to-Stallone turns in the Expendables trilogy, The Meg or his supporting turns in the likes of Spy, The Italian Job or Gnomeo and Juliet. Because of his high-octane films and international appeal with moviegoers of both genders, Statham emerged as one of the 21 century's most bankable action stars.Snatch is an ensemble piece and more of a gangster comedy than an actioner, but if Wrath of Man passes it that will be a moot point. Jason Stratham is delightfully cool as the imperturbable Transporter, and Qi Shu brings us a cute face, but despite a poor command of the English language, brings a love interest/woman-in-distress role opposite Jason Statham. From there, he joined the steroid-laden cast of "The Expendables" (2010) and tackled the Charles Bronson role in "The Mechanic" (2011). Meanwhile, he was able to show off his acting chops in "The Bank Job" (2008), a smart crime thriller based on a real-life 1971 robbery. Stratham enjoyed a growing international fan base, thanks to several action franchises, including "The Transporter" (2002) and "Crank" (2006), both of which spawned commercially successful sequels.

His background as a professional athlete and his proficiency in martial arts and gutsy physical stunts were not so unusual for an action star, but his accent and unique persona as a streetwise Londoner added an extra layer of appeal and enabled him to break through to U.S. Praised for its fresh visual style and quick wit, the film defined a new era of action caper and helped establish Statham as the go-to-guy for handsome, cockney outlaws in action thrillers like "The Italian Job" (2003) and "Cellular" (2004). One of very few English actors to find success in American action films, Jason Statham was an untrained unknown when director Guy Ritchie cast him in a close-to-home role as a con artist in his directorial debut "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" (1998).
